The Man In the Sea Museum

Sometimes the most important moments begin with something that seems almost insignificant.

Our introduction to the Man in the Sea Museum came during the 2024 U. S. Army Divers Association Reunion. While attending the reunion, Jon Larrew, President of the Association, suggested that we present the museum with a mock-up of an early version of the cover for The Delta Divers of Vietnam. At the time, it felt like a simple gesture — a way of introducing the project and thanking the museum for preserving the history of diving.

Looking back, that simple suggestion by the Army Divers Association became one of the defining moments in the evolution of the Delta Divers Project.

A few months later, the Man In the Sea Museum mailed the group a notebook filled with photographs, documents, and historical information about the first Army Divers sent to Vietnam — the very men the Delta Divers had relieved when they arrived in country. For the first time, they were looking into a chapter of their own history that had largely disappeared from view. It wasn't just another collection of records; it was the beginning of reconnecting with a lost legacy and uncovering information they had been searching for for years.
